Does Medicare cover preventive care services?

Early detection of illnesses and the promotion of wellness are the primary objectives of preventive care.

Medicare provides coverage for an extensive array of preventive care services, including screenings for various cancers, obesity evaluations, substance use assessments, and chronic illness monitoring. The majority of these preventive care services are endorsed by the US Preventive Services Task Force and are provided without cost-sharing under the Affordable Care Act provisions.

Medicare stipulates that certain preventive services be conducted by designated providers, like a general practitioner.

Typically, Medicare will only cover services rendered by providers who are enrolled in Medicare. Those participating in Medicare and accepting Medicare’s payment amounts partake in the Medicare program with Original Medicare. If you opt for a Medicare Advantage plan, it’s necessary to utilize a provider that is part of your plan’s network, which means they recognize your Medicare Advantage plan for payment. Preventive services may incur charges if they are received from providers who do not accept Medicare or are outside your plan’s network.
