If you are enrolled in Original Medicare and wish to enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan, you can do so during the Medicare Advantage Annual Enrollment Period (AEP). AEP takes place every year from October 15th through December 7th. If you enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan during AEP, it will be effective January 1st of the following year.
If you are enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan and wish to go back to Original Medicare, you can do so at any time. However, if you want to enroll in a Part-D prescription drug plan, you can only do that during AEP. As a result, it will be essential to make the change back to Original Medicare effective January 1st, so you don’t have any coverage gap.
