Medicare Annual Enrollment Period (October 15 through December 7)

Open Enrollment

The Annual Enrollment Period (October 15 through December 7) is the one time of year when EVERY person with a Medicare Advantage plan or Prescription Drug plan, can make a change to their plan.  As agents, right now we are in the middle of getting re-certified and taking tests for the various insurance companies, and we are just beginning to see what changes are coming for the existing plans and what new plans are available for 2021.

It is important for our clients to know that we are their Agent of Record.  What that means to you is that if you ever have any questions about how your plan works, billing that doesn’t seem right, wanting to change your PCP (Primary Care Physician) doctor, you want to add a dental rider, etc.      I AM the person you would call to assist you.  I can direct you to how to resolve the problem, or if necessary, we can do a 3-way call to the insurance company, doctor’s office, or third party vendor to get it taken care of.  I also try to keep you informed of changes to Medicare, or changes to your plan through my monthly newsletters and client kick-off meetings.

But most of all, as an “Independent Agent”, I represent ALL the major insurance  carrier’s products, so you and I can compare the premiums, deductibles, co-pays and added benefits of multiple plans, so you can feel confident you have the right plan for your situation. Some agents are a “captive agent” with just ONE insurance company, and therefore they can only sell that one company’s plans – whether or not it is the most appropriate plan for your needs.  They do not have the flexibility to show you pricing or benefits for multiple carriers so that you can compare them and see which one is the best fit for your medical coverage and budget.

Also, with the upcoming Annual Enrollment Period, you are going to be inundated with television commercials, mailers, phone calls and you will run in to agents around every corner – at the grocery store, in the lobby of your doctor’s office, at the pharmacy, etc.  They are going to attempt to lure you into a different plan (whether it is right for you or not). If you buy into their rhetoric and sign up for the plan they are offering, I will no longer be your Agent of Record.  That means I can no longer see your plan, call to get resolution to a problem or information from the insurance company for your plan.  You will now be someone else’s client, or worse, if you sign up over the phone for a different plan, you will NOT have an agent.  And good luck getting hold of the same person twice when you call the toll free number for assistance.
