If you necessitate urgent medical services or items while overseas, your Medicare Supplement insurance may offer extra protection. Medicare Supplement policies C, D, F, G, M, and N include coverage for emergency health care during international trips when you’re outside the boundaries of the U.S.
Policies E, H, I, and J are no longer up for sale, but if you acquired one prior to June 1, 2010, you’re allowed to retain it. These policies also extend coverage for emergency health care during international travels when you are abroad.
Medicare Supplement coverage abroad
With a Medicare Supplement Plan C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, M, or N, your policy:
* Offers coverage for emergency medical attention during foreign trip if the event begins within the initial 60 days of your travel, and if Medicare doesn’t provide coverage for that service.
* Reimburses 80% of the incurred charges for essential emergency medical attention outside the U.S. once you pay a yearly deductible of $250.
The cap for emergency medical care coverage under Medicare Supplement while travelling internationally is $50,000 over the course of your lifetime.
