What are my Medicare rights?

Every individual enrolled in Medicare is guaranteed specific entitlements and safeguards. As a beneficiary, you are entitled to:
• Receive courteous, dignified, and respectful treatment at all times.
• Be safeguarded against any form of discrimination.
• Expect that your private and health-related information remains confidential.
• Obtain information that is comprehensible to you from Medicare, medical providers, and in certain cases, contractors.
• Be informed about the options for your treatment in understandable terminology, and be involved in making decisions about your care.
• Access Medicare data and medical services in a language you are fluent in.
• Receive your Medicare data in a format that is accessible to you, such as braille or print with large characters. Consult “CMS Accessible Communications” on page 107. Reminder: If you require information about your plan in a language other than English or in an accessible layout, reach out to your plan.
• Find solutions to your inquiries about Medicare.
• Have the ability to see doctors, specialists, and hospitals to obtain medically necessary treatments.
• Benefit from services covered by Medicare in the event of an emergency.
