What do I pay for hospice while enrolled with Medicare?

Your financial responsibilities in Original Medicare include:

– Zero charges for hospice services.

– A copayment not exceeding $5 for outpatient prescription medications for managing pain and symptoms. If by chance the hospice provision does not incorporate your medication, your hospice provider should liaise with your plan to determine if Part D will cover it. Your provider will inform you about any unprovided medications or services, as well as any costs you must bear.

– A responsibility for 5% of the Medicare-Approved Amount for inpatient respite care.

– Potential charges for lodging and meals if you are residing in an institution (such as a nursing home) and elect to receive hospice care there.
