You might be entitled to cost-free Medicare Part A (hospital insurance) without a premium if you meet one of these conditions:
– You are 65 years of age or more, and either you or your partner has been employed and contributed to Medicare taxes for a minimum of a decade.
– You are a beneficiary of retirement funds from either Social Security or the Railroad Retirement Board.
– You have the right to receive benefits from Social Security or the Railroad Retirement Board, but you haven’t applied for them as of yet.
– Either you or your spouse is or was employed in a government position insured by Medicare.
Should you not register for Part A during your initial sign-up window, you’ll be required to wait until the general enrollment period, which extends from January 1 to March 31 every year, with benefits commencing on July 1. Additionally, Part A will come with a premium charge, even if you were eligible for it without a premium, in case you did not enroll when you were primarily eligible (and are not qualified for any special enrollment period instances).
