The first step in enrolling in Medicare is creating an account on the Social Security Administration’s website.
You can do this yourself or with the assistance of a Medicare expert from Just Us Insurance Services.
If you choose not to sign up for Social Security at the same time as Medicare, that’s ok you will be asked if you want to enroll in one program or both during the enrollment process. You will need to provide your name, address, phone number, and Social Security number to complete the application. You will also need to provide proof of identity using a birth certificate, driver’s license, or evidence of U.S. citizenship if you weren’t born in the U.S. If you’re not a citizen, you will need to provide your permanent resident card. If you are enrolling in a Part D drug plan, Medicare supplement plan, or Medicare Advantage plan, you may need to provide additional information such as your primary care physician’s name. You may also want to have a list of your medications to best estimate what your potential out of pocket costs may be for Part D drug plans.
