People Still Have Time to Enroll in 2020 Health Coverage!
Covered California Offers a New Special Enrollment Period Qualifying Event, There is Still Time to Enroll!
Covered California is offering a Special Enrollment period through April 30, 2020, to people who recently learned about financial help through the new state premium assistance. It is also available for people who did not know about the new California state tax penalty. As a reminder, starting this year, California brought back the mandate that persons have health coverage or else pay a California state tax penalty. They will need to enroll by March 31, 2020 to avoid the California state tax penalty unless they qualify for an exemption.
State premium assistance is for consumers who are within 200% to 600% of the federal poverty level (FPL). The greatest impact is to those at 400% to 600% of the FPL. This help with costs is on top of the federal advanced premium tax credit (APTC).
Important! Even if people don’t qualify for financial help, they can still use this special enrollment period to enroll for health coverage through the exchange. This qualifying event does not apply to new enrollment in our off-exchange plans.
Effective dates of coverage are:
